In South Africa we are known as a ‘developing country’ now not many people actually understand what this means so I am often asked the question “Martin, what do they mean when they say we are a developing country?”
Ok I don’t get asked that at all but i sometimes cannot resist the opportunity to explain just how cool it is to actually be part of such a global impacting neutral country such as South Africa.
So ultimately being a developing country does not actually mean that that is a bad thing, it is by all means a very good thing. Being a developing country means that we are recognized as a country with substantial growth in the countries economy as well as in the way our business is being conducted locally and internationally.
Now how can you aid South Africa as a citizen and as an individual in this development of the countries foreseeable future?
The answers are simple and they are all around you, here are a few which you could consider:
- Refrain from buying pirated DVD movies, this is a sure way of crippling the economy, not only because your hiking up the genuine DVD pricing but a small portion of those sales go to the countries economy through tax and this helps considering the DVD industry is so big.
- If you are going to buy something, try do some research and make sure your buying from companies which are Proudly South African, companies who are flying the Proudly South African banner are aiding in creating jobs as well as growing the local economy.
- Another thing you could consider is a little decency, try not to undercut everyone in the goal to get the best bargain, the best bargain for you is not always the best bargain for your country now if you don’t know it the truth is that under cutting someone in the long run under cuts you as well.
So with this in mind the types of people I am trying to educate on this are mostly the pirates who will buy the fake stuff for the bargain price for whatever silly reason but will complain when the interest rate on their home loans and cars hike up. This is a clear case of not seeing the big picture.

The Death Penalty

I am writing this article in response to the ignorance that our country is experiencing and to send back in response to everyone who forwards a petition to get the death penalty back especially when they have no clue what the real problems are.
There are those who believe that killing one or two murderers might shock those murderers and/or rapists into stopping what they are doing pending the risks involved in such activity. As much as this might be true its not exactly a measurable thing and we would never know if it ever really does solve the problem.
Let me shine some light on the real world for you for just a minute or two and please if you are one who believes that the death penalty needs to come back I think you may need to read through this thoroughly.
The country is experiencing some difficulties in some areas which are directly related to crime yes I do admit that, but the problem is not as simple as the public would wish to imagine. The issues for most part are related to corruption, it plagues this country. Now lets imagine for a second that Mr Mbeki took the time to take this silly petition which is going around seriously and the death penalty was enforced in South Africa. Take a step back for one moment and imagine what has been created…
Can you see it?
The power to murder innocent people legally without question or prejudice!
See it now? Ok clearly I need to explain more.
In this country the public (that’s you) has access to government services (police officials) on levels where you should not have this access. Hypothetically this means that should you dislike someone or better yet you had a means to gain from them passing. In a situation like we have today with the death penalty in place you could have that person convicted of a crime, put on trial, and murdered by the state should you have enough persuasion (money). Surely you see that as more of an injustice?
Please people look at what you are doing and think before you act out, we cannot afford to have the death penalty in place in South Africa until such time that the corruption is removed completely.
