How great is the sum of thy thoughts?
In June 2007 I headed to Europe on a wonderful holiday with my two closest friends Jason and Vanessa.
We headed out of Johannesburg International Airport on the 4th of June, we were so tired after having such a problem at the airport with our tickets. The travel agent had totally stuffed up on Jason’s ticket and there was a huge dispute between us and the guy at the Emirates Airline counter, he did mention they had a lot of trouble with the specific travel agent we used… Quite an amusing start to our trip, at the time it was rather frustrating.
Needless to say we did manage to resolve the issue, luckily Nicole my Fathers Girlfriend managed to get it all sorted for us, as you can imagine we were very grateful.
We landed at Dubai Airport, i have never in my life been in such a hot place, our flight landed nice and early in the morning around 3am, the temperature was at a staggering 30 Degree’s Celsius and it was only destined to get much much hotter than that. The seven hour stop over in that heat was a little too much to be honest, when we got back onto another Emirates flight we were so happy to be off to cooler climates, Europe!!!
Landing in Dusseldorf proved us to be a little off the mark temperature wise, it was also very very hot there. We were faced with the strangest of people, quite possibly the most stuck up people you have ever met, needless to say we were not planning on being in Dusseldorf for too long. One night to be precise, I proceeded to make beds and Jason and Vanessa went out to look for pad locks for the cupboards in our Dorms… after a while I was tired and lay down… what must have been a good few hours later Jason and Vanessa got back into the room looking furious at how lost they had gotten in the city where everything looks the same no matter which direction they went.
Needless to say we were soon in Amsterdam, and pictures speak louder than words so here are some photo’s of all the places we have been so far:
The first thing we did when we got into Amsterdam, was walk, and walk and walk and…
After much walking we were keen to get on a boat and see the sights.
We also did some shopping, then we headed off to another city in Netherlands called Eindhoven where we found a vinyl record shop which we were looking for and we managed to meet the guy who made a song which we love a hell of a lot called, Cab10 by Jowaan. It was a bit of an emotional moment for all of us, we had heard from everyone that Trance had really died out here as it had been banging non stop for about seven years and Holland had gotten bored of it. Needless to say we managed to find some good vinyl’s and we took very little photos.
Our journey then took us to Berlin, we didn’t take too many photo’s in Berlin either but we were very fascinated by this very old building in the centre of town, it is a church which looks to have only just survived the war, there are pictures of people in the Church when it was shelled by artillery fire.
On our walks we saw a number of vehicles which we also wanted photo’s of, a nice Lamborghini, some strange vehicles which we don’t get in South Africa, and some old model cars which we only seemed to get the newer models of in South Africa.
We also took some photo’s while in transit, be it by Train, Bus, Tram or Plane.
I loved the trip overseas, I definitely plan on taking time to travel overseas again.
